Circular Redwood (Sequoia) Mandala sculpture. Beautiful for indoor and outdoor use. Doug King-Smith
Doug King-Smith creates unique wooden sculptures; natural forms of grace and beauty. Exhibited at various galleries, and mainly held in private collections, his work is a subliming of the powerful forces inherent in nature, machine, and soul... the process a containing of something inherently destructive and violent, akin to alchemical processes, his sculptures are reminders of the grace and harmony achieved by fully accepting the whole. Doug helped establish the 491 Gallery Sustainable Community Regeneration Art Project in east London with Gregory Scott Gurner (The Art Organisation), and was founding director of Festival of Flight, a holistic events organisation which raised awareness for various issues of humanitarian concern. As well as creating sculptures, Doug teaches the art of Mongolian Overtone Singing, and is establishing The Woodshed, a sculpture studio and community artspace near Totnes, Devon, UK, where he leads workshops in transforming reclaimed antique roof timbers into beautiful benches, shelves and coffee tables. Here Doug is also developing a space to share and develop skills in green woodwork. The Woodshed and Doug's workshops are part of the Transition Town Totnes, Skilling Up for Power Down programme - an effort for the local community to reduce energy consumption and build coherent community networks which can thrive in a post-oil economy. http://www.waterbirdsong. Summer 2008 his work is on show at Delamore, The Mythic Gardens, The Great Create and Bowden House, Totnes.
